NICE TO MEET YOU
I'm Charlie Thiry
A 28 year old Belgian medical doctor with five years of clinical experience. I trained in South Africa, completing a community service year in rural Limpopo. I relocated to Ireland in 2024, working as an Emergency Department Registrar in Cork before starting Basic Specialty Training (BST) in general internal medicine and an MSc in Interventional Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Galway. My primary interest is internal medicine, with a particular passion for cardiology and electrophysiology.
I've always wanted to become a cardiologist and been fascinated by ECGs from the first day of medical school.
I've travelled to 40 countries and lived in 6 of them: Cameroon, Egypt, Belgium, Nigeria, South Africa and now Ireland.
I speak 5 languages: English, French, Afrikaans, Dutch/Flemish and some rudimentary isiXhosa.
I absolutely love reading everything I can get my hands on: Non-fiction, biography, business and philosophy.
